Sarah and James had been together for three years, and their love had grown strong.
They were at the point in their relationship where marriage was no longer just a dream—it was a plan. When James invited Sarah to meet his parents, she was thrilled. It was a significant step toward their future together.
The night before the visit, James casually mentioned something that caught Sarah off guard.
“Oh, by the way, I have a little sister. She’s five. Her name’s Lily.”
Sarah furrowed her brows. “Wait, what? How come you’ve never mentioned her before? Your parents are in their sixties. How do they have a five-year-old daughter?”
James shrugged, giving her an easy smile. “I guess I just forgot to tell you. She’s adorable, though. You’ll love her.”
Something about his response felt off, but Sarah decided not to press him further. The next day, when she arrived at James’s family home, she met Lily—a bright-eyed, cheerful little girl. James’s parents were warm and welcoming, and her doubts momentarily faded. Maybe James had genuinely just forgotten to mention his sister.
However, Sarah’s parents were more skeptical and warned her to be cautious. “It’s strange that he never told you about her,” her mother said. And his parents are too old to have a child that young. What if she’s not his sister? What if she’s his daughter?”
The thought sent chills down Sarah’s spine. She had never doubted James before, but now she couldn’t shake the suspicion. After some deliberation, she secretly took a DNA sample from James and Lily and had it tested.
And this was the moment when the biggest plot twist of her life unfolded….

When the results came back, relief flooded her. There was no biological relation between them. Lily truly wasn’t James’s daughter. Feeling guilty for doubting James, Sarah confessed what she had done and apologized.
But instead of being understanding, James’s face darkened with rage. “You went behind my back and did a DNA test? You don’t trust me?” he shouted before storming out.
Days passed without a word from him. Sarah was filled with regret and anxiety. She finally decided to call his parents’ house.
James’s mother answered, her voice heavy with sorrow. “Sarah, I’m so sorry. James is in jail.”
Sarah’s heart nearly stopped. “What? Why?”
His mother hesitated before revealing the truth. “Lily is his daughter. His ex-girlfriend told him she was his, and we all kept it a secret. But when he saw the DNA results, he realized she wasn’t his. He confronted his ex, they f0ught, and… he was arr3sted. He has a record, so it’ll be a long time before he’s out.”
Sarah felt her blood turn cold. The people she had trusted had lied to her. James had lied. His family had lied. If she had never done the test, she might have walked into a marriage built on deception.
Now, she felt lucky. All she could do was walk away, knowing she had narrowly escaped a life entangled in lies.
