As a teenager, it doesn’t get more embarrassing than having to hang out with your parents.
I remember the days of walking a few paces behind my parents when we were out in public as if there was something wrong with them.
When a Texas dad found out that his 17-year-old son was misbehaving at school, it got him thinking about the worse punishment he could dish out.
He considered taking his cell phone away or grounding him but then had an ingenious idea that parents all over the world are congratulating him on.
The teacher had on several occasions told the family that their teenage son Brad talked too much during lessons.
So his dad Bradley decided to give his talkative son an ultimatum.
“For some reason, I said, ‘Hey, if we get another call I’m going to show up in school and sit beside you in class,’” Dad Brad said, according to Buzzfeed.
His son did not believe he was serious and continued to disrupt his physics class continuing to disturb the teacher and pupils.
When Dad Brad received another phone call about his son’s disturbing behavior, it was time to stick to his word.
‘I didn’t even notice him’
It wasn’t something dad Brad wanted to do but he had to shock his son into behaving.
“Friday is my only day off, so my wife wakes me up and says, ‘Brad, it’s time for you to go to school.’ I thought, Oh no, what have I done?” the dad said.
The next day student Brad walked into his physics class as usual and to his horror saw his dad waiting for him by his desk.
“I didn’t even notice him until after I had said hi to all of my friends, but I was super shocked,” the teen said according to Buzzfeed.
The other teenagers in the classroom enjoyed watching Brad suffer from his dad sitting next to him and had a good laugh at his expense.
Brad’s sister, Mollie, also had a good laugh at her dad showing up in Brad’s class and shared the story on social media.
“My dad told my brother if he got another call from the physics teacher complaining he would go sit in his class..dad got another call,” writes Molli on her Twitter post.
Even mother Denise Howard posted about her husband’s actions.
“The Howard men are famous,” said Bradley’s mom. “We’ve had a great time with this but more than anything we hope we don’t get any more calls about Bradley interrupting in physics class!”
Like his wife Brad senior hopes, this is a one-off as he wasn’t quite ready to enter a high school classroom.
Dad said the physics teacher was grateful, but added, “I pray it was a one-time thing,” he said. “I don’t think I’d ever do it again.”
I did the same thing when my son ‘couldn’t remember’ to turn in his homework. After a few days of me sitting next to him in a number of classes, his memory improved drastically.
It’s so good to see parents follow through on their threats. Consistency and teaching your teen to respect teachers is so vital.
