Kelly Riding is a son who clearly respects his mother. Although her 90-year-old mother has Alzheimer’s, Kelly is still able to contact her in amazing ways.
This debilitating disease attacks the brain’s memory and function, often prohibiting the patient from communicating with loved ones.
Kelly looked for a way to communicate and connect with her sick mother, and turned to the power of music to bring her together. In this moving video, Kelly’s mother sits on a chair and begins to scratch a guitar. Despite an ailing memory, the lyrics and chords come naturally to her.
Kelly sits next to her mother and the two men begin to harmonize and create a beautiful piece of music that is much more than the song. Although Alzheimer’s disease can deprive the victims of memory and cognitive functions, it can not take away the love of music.
The song choice of “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” is especially touching because of the relevant lyrics that discuss the journey and healing that occurs after life on earth. Kelly’s Facebook page has more than 60,000 subscribers and he regularly posts videos of himself and his mother on music.
